Moraga, CA - Saint Mary's freshman guard Matthew Dellavedova was selected as a 2010 CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Freshmen All-America, which was announced on Tuesday. During his freshman season, Dellavedova finished third on the team in scoring, averaging 12.1 points per game.
Dellavedova, a native of Maryborough, Victoria, Australia, scored 412 points, which ranks second on the Saint Mary's freshman single season scoring list. In addition to his ability to score, he also finished second on the team with 153 assists (4.5 apg), which are tied for seventh in the SMC single season list.
While averaging a team-high 36.4 minutes per game, Dellavedova shot 39.8 percent from 3-point land during his freshman campaign, making 74-of-186 3-point field goals. His 74 made threes rank sixth on the Saint Mary's single season list, while his 186 attempts rank seventh. Additionally, he was second on the team with 40 steals, averaged 3.5 rebounds per game, and had a 2.3 assist/turnover ratio.
Dellavedova becomes the fifth player coached by Randy Bennett to be selected to the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Freshmen All-America team, following Daniel Kickert (2003), Diamon Simpson (2006), Omar Samhan (2007), and Patrick Mills (2008).
