Travis Clarke was named as the sixth Saint Mary's College women's soccer head coach in the program's 28-year history in March of 2015.

Clarke begins his third year as head coach for the Gaels in 2017.

2016 represented one of the youngest squads in program history, as Clarke had a combined 12 freshman and sophomores on the squad. Clarke had five first year players play in over 50 percent of the matches. Despite the young team, Clarke produced another step forward for the women's soccer team.

Clarke led his team to three conference victories, the first time since 2003 the Gaels had nine or more points in the conference season. The Gaels finished the campaign strong, winning three of their last four matches. In the season's home opener, the Gaels gave Clarke his 100th career coaching win with an impressive 2-0 win over nationally-ranked No. 12 California.

SMC finished the season with wins over four top-50 teams in 2016. The Gaels defeated the Golden Bears, Portland, San Diego and LMU. The 3-0 win at Portland was the program's first victory at Merlo Field since 2001.

In his second season, Clarke placed 10 players on the WCC All-Academic teams. Hannah Diaz had one of the most impressive years in program history, as she was named WCC First Team and was named NSCAA D-I All-West Region Third Team. Diaz ended the year being named to the U-23 U.S. National Team in March.

Saint Mary's landed their first All-West Coast Conference First-Team player in five years in Diaz during the 2015 season.  The Gaels gave up 11 less goals compared to the previous season and SMC played in eight overtime matches in Clarke's first season at the helm in Moraga.

Clarke concluded his sixth season as the head coach at Cal State San Bernardino, where he led the Coyotes to a 63-40-13 record and a 46-34-10 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Under Clarke's guidance, CSUSB registered six straight winning seasons and, in 2013, advanced to the NCAA Division II West Regional finals.

During his six seasons at CSUSB, Clarke led the women's soccer program to six consecutive NSCAA and NCAA regional top 10 finishes.  He set program records for career wins (63), single season victories (14) single season CCAA victories (9) and consecutive victories (9).

He guided CSUSB student-athletes to 17 all-CCAA honors and seven NSCAA Far West Region selections.  In 2013, Chelsey Jones earned conference defensive player of the year, NSCAA All-America and Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors and was a finalist for NCAA Woman of the year honors.

Off the field, Clark's teams won 5-straight NSCAA Team Academic Awards and earned the CSUSB athletic department's top grade point average.  The program produced 29 academic all-conference and nine Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District® selections.

Clarke is also a 2015-16 NSCAA 30 for 30 program coach mentor.

A 2003 graduate of Cal Poly, Clarke spent three years in the United States Navy.  He began his coaching career in 1998 as the varsity boys coach at Atascadero (Calif.) High School, winning three league titles and helping develop three NSCAA/adidas High School All-Americans.

He began coaching girls soccer with the California Legends Soccer Club in 2000 and served as the girls varsity coach at Nipomo High School in 2005.  During that span, he also spent time as a men's assistant at Santa Barbara City College and Allan Hancock College, helping lead both programs to conference titles.

In 2006, Clarke became the first ever head women's soccer coach at the University of Hawai'i at Hilo.  He spent three seasons with the Vulcans, compiling a 29-27-1 record that included 25 wins in his final two years.

In the nine previous years of coaching before coming to SMC, Clarke posted a 92-67-14 overall record.

A native of Atascadero, Clarke is married to the former Kimberli Keller.  The couple has one son, Calix and reside in Pleasanton.
