MORAGA, Calif. — The defending West Coast Conference champion Saint Mary’s College baseball team will kick off its 2017 campaign with its annual First Pitch Dinner, to be held on Jan. 28, 2017, at Blackhawk Country Club in Danville.
The First Pitch Dinner is being held for the second straight year at the Blackhawk Country Club, which features a 40,000 square-foot clubhouse. The 2016 First Pitch Dinner sold out in its new venue. The event is scheduled to go from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will start with a reception and silent auction, and continue with dinner and program at 7:30 p.m. Players and coaches will be on hand and introduced, and alumni will be in attendance as well.
An exciting season awaits the 2017 Gaels, as they return seven starters and 21 letterwinners from a 2016 club that won its first-ever WCC regular season and tournament titles, and made the school’s first-ever trip to an NCAA Regional. The team also features 14 newcomers.
On Jan. 29, the day after the First Pitch Dinner, Valenzuela will hold the second Alumni Game of his tenure as head coach at Saint Mary’s. The game is scheduled for a noon start at Louis Guisto Field, pitting former Gaels against the current 2017 team.
