Caporn Videos

The first Australian men's basketball player in Saint Mary's history, Adam Caporn returned to Moraga in 2010 to serve as an assistant men's basketball coach for the Gaels for four seasons (2011-14).

In April, 2014 Caporn was named associate coach of the Basketball Australia National Centre of Excellence (CoE) men’s program.

While at Saint Mary's, he was involved in all phases of helping direct the nationally-prominent Gaels men's basketball program, including floor coaching, scouting and recruiting.  In 2011, Caporn served as an assistant coach for the Australian World University Games team that traveled to Shenzhen, China.

After playing the 2002 and 2003 seasons under Randy Bennett at Saint Mary's, Caporn returned to Australia following his sophomore season to join the Wollongong Hawks in the National Basketball League.  He helped lead the Hawks to the 2005 NBL Championship Series.  From 2007-09, Caporn played professionally for the Perth Wildcats.

While playing professionally, Caporn remained a member of the Australian National Team and was a member of the squad for the 2006 Commonweatlth Games.

As Caporn was putting the finishing touches on his professional playing career, he started coaching in 2007 as an assistant coach for the Willetton Tigers of the State Basketball League (SBL). He then provided junior individual instruction in Western Australia from 2007-09, as well as individual coaching for NBL and SBL players from 2007-09 and was then Head Coach for the East Perth Eagles (SBL) in 2009.

In 2009, Caporn served as Scholarship Coach at the Australian Institute of Sport. In his role at the AIS, he assisted with the development of male basketball players to the elite international level, while identifying and recruiting junior athletes to the institute.

Caporn came to Saint Mary's in 2001 as coach Bennett's first recruit, and the first player to join the Gaels from Australia. In his two seasons at Saint Mary's, he averaged

6.4 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists and was a team captain during his sophomore season.  His 1.44 steals average remains among the top-10 career marks in Saint Mary's history.

Prior to Saint Mary's, Caporn helped lead Western Australia to two gold medals at the Australian Junior Championships before becoming an AIS scholarship holder in

2000 and then serving as team captain in 2001.  He also participated as a member of the Australian U19 National Team and was a reserve for the U23 squad for the 2001 U23 FIBA World Championships.
