SMC jumped out front early with wins on all three doubles courts. Freshman Elizabeth Searl and senior Molly Aloia teamed up for an 8-3 win on court three, while senior Anna Chkhikvishvili and junior Catherine Isip clinched the point with an 8-2 win at the No. 2 spot. The sophomore duo of Jenny Jullien and Jade Frampton won a tight 9-8 match on court one to give the Gaels the doubles sweep.
No. 90 Jullien put Saint Mary's up 2-0 with a quick 6-3, 6-0 singles win over Alex Zaniewski on court two. Frampton made it a 3-0 match at the No. 3 spot, defeating Kelly Lamble 6-4, 6-1. The senior Chkhikvishvili clinched the win for the Gaels on court four with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Kacie Wagner.
Freshman Catherine Leduc earned the fifth point of the day at the No. 5 spot, topping Jessica Agra 6-4, 6-3. Rounding out the SMC wins was Isip on court one, who had a big upset win over SCU's No. 41 Katie Le, 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (4).
The win over Santa Clara sets up a showdown next week in the Gaels final regular season match of the season against San Diego on Saturday, April 21. The winner of the match will in all likelihood receive the all-important No. 2 seed in WCC Championships.
