MORAGA, Calif. - Saint Mary's men's and women's cross country and track and field head coach Marty Kinsey is pleased to announce the addition of talented runner Zach Hansen for the 2012 season.
Hansen comes to Saint Mary's from George Nelson Tremper High School in Kenosha, Wis., where he was a two-time captain under distance coach Freddy Garcia and head coach Charles Bradley. Hansen was a member of three Kenosha Tremper teams that traveled to the WIAA Division I State Championships where his teams placed 15th (2009), 10th (2010), and 9th (2011) in the state.
Individually, he placed 24th in 2009 (16:39), 3rd in 2010 (15:56), and 9th in 2011 (16:04). He won five races in his senior campaign including the WIAA Division I Racine Horlick Sectional (16:07), Southeastern Conference (16:11), and Kenosha County Championships (15:46). For his efforts, Zach was awarded Wisconsin Cross Country All-State First Team honors the past two years.
On the track, he placed 4th in the 1600m at the Wisconsin State Track & Field Championships (4:13.61), the 78th fastest time in the nation. Hansen was also recruited by Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and Minnesota.
Coach Kinsey on Hansen: "It has been our pleasure to recruit Zach and his parents, Steve and Tasha. Coach Garcia has done wonderful things with Zach and his Kenosha Tremper teams. Zach was looking for a supportive community in a small school and he found it here at Saint Mary's. He saw what we're building here at the college and wanted to be a part of it. Zach is a very humble individual and an all-around good-natured person. We're really looking forward to him joining the team and helping us continue our journey up the West Coast Conference ladder."
Hansen joins Andrew Eckberg and David Salas on the men's side and Carina Novell, Taylor Khan, Katie Alioto, and Tiffany Monsalud for the women's side to make up the class of 2016.
