MORAGA, Calif. -- The honors keep rolling in for Saint Mary's senior men's soccer defender Trevor Newquist.

Named the West Coast Conference Defender of the Year and a first-team all-league selection a few weeks ago, today the San Diego native was honored as a first-team all-Far West Region selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

From the defender position, Newquist, who ended-up fifth on the school's career list for career game-winning goals with seven in four seasons, finished among the top four of the team's scorer's in each of his four seasons.  In the recently-concluded 2012 season he led the team in goals with five goals and finished just behind classmate Nathan Arambula in scoring with 10 points.

A four-year letterwinner, Newquist played in 78 of 81 matches during his career - good for the third-highest total for any individual player in school history. His 12 career goals is the seventh-most ever for a Gael and his 13 career assists is eighth.  His 37 total points is also seventh on SMC's career charts.

Joined by Arambula, Jose Cabeza and Conroy Cunningham, the senior quartet graduated as the most successful class in school history, winning 60 percent of their games, earning the program's first-ever league title and qualifying for two trips to the NCAA Tournament.  Last season, they led the Gaels to the NCAA Elite Eight.
