BERKELEY, Calif. -- If Jenny Jullien picked up any rust over the holiday break, she's surely not showing it at the Cal Winter Invitational in Berkeley.
The Saint Mary's women's tennis player continued to impress on day two of action at the Hellman Tennis Center. Squaring off with No. 9-ranked Annett Schutting of Cal, Jullien picked up her second straight-sets win over a top-30 ranked player in as many days, emerging with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
On Friday, Jullien defeated West Coast Conference foe Katie Le of Santa Clara, giving the native of Perpignan, France a strong start to the 2013 campaign.
Jullien's win over Schutting was Cal's lone loss in two days of action at its own tournament. The Bears proved why it entered the season-opening tournament ranked No. 7 in the country, winning all seven of their other singles matches against the Gaels.
Saint Mary's found more success in doubles, taking two of three matches from Santa Clara.
Catherine Isip and Elizabeth Searl got their second win in as many days, beating Kelly Lamble and Maggie McGeorge 8-7 (3). Catherine Leduc and Danielle Flores also picked up a win, beating Nikki Wolny and Stephanie Skaras 8-1.
Saint Mary's returns to action on Sunday at 10 a.m. with singles action against Fresno State. The Gaels wrap up play at 12:30 p.m. with doubles matches against Cal.
