SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The Saint Mary's women's tennis team took an early lead thanks to solid play in doubles, but a rally by San Diego State gave the host Aztecs a 4-3 victory on Sunday.
Saint Mary's (1-3) earned the first point of the day with two victories in doubles. Jenny Jullien and Jade Frampton teamed to earn an 8-4 win at No. 1, while Catherine Isip and Elizabeth Searl earned a 8-2 win at No. 2 to earn the point.
San Diego State rallied once singles began, and a win at No. 2 singles clinched the victory for the Aztecs. Saint Mary's did pick up two wins at singles, with Catherine Leduc scoring the first point with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Kristin Buth at No. 5.
In the final match of the day, Jullien continued her strong start to the season with an intense win at No. 1 singles. Stretched to three sets by Julia Wais, Jullien pulled away in the third to win 7-6, 6-7, 10-3.
With the win, Jullien improves to 5-1 in the spring season. The native of Perpignan, France owns four wins over ranked opponents.
Saint Mary's gets back to action on Wednesday as the Gaels open West Coast Conference play at Portland.
