MORAGA, Calif. -- The Saint Mary's men's tennis team set the tone with a sweep of doubles and kept going from there to beat UC Davis 6-1 on Sunday at Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.

Looking for continued improvement after a tough loss to Pacific last weekend, Saint Mary's (3-4) showed a week of working hard at practice made a big difference right off the bat against the Aggies (4-4).

Jesse Kiuru and Joakim Norstrom led the way at No. 1 doubles, finishing off an 8-6 win over Toki Sherbakov and Adam Levie for the first win of the day.

Seif El Sherbini and Thomas Hunt clinched the point for the Gaels, beating George Horowitz and Brett Bacharach 8-4.

Tuomas Manner and Samuel Bloore would also win, beating Kyle Miller and Adam Luba 8-6 at No. 2 for a clean sweep.

That success carried into singles for Saint Mary's. Manner earned the next point with a straight-sets win at No. 3 singles, then Norstrom followed suit with a 6-4, 6-4 win of his own at No. 2.

Needing just one more point to finish things off, Kiuru played the role of leader at the top of the lineup. His 6-3, 6-4 win over Sherbakov gave the Gaels the desired fourth point, clinching the victory.

It took a bit longer, but Saint Mary's was equally successful at the bottom of the lineup. Hunt fought hard for a 7-6, 7-6 win over Hugo Verdi-Fortin at No. 6, and Bloore worked to finish off a 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 victory at No. 5 to finish the scoring for the Gaels.

Next up for Saint Mary's is a trip to Southern California. The Gaels will play UC Riverside at noon on Saturday, then head to Westwood on Sunday to take on No. 3-ranked UCLA.

Action returns to Moraga on March 1 when the Gaels play their first West Coast Conference match of the season against Santa Clara at 3 p.m.
