MORAGA, Calif. -- Fresh off last weekend's home win over UC Davis, the Saint Mary's men's tennis team now heads back on the road for matches against UC Riverside and UCLA.
The Gaels (3-4) will face Riverside on Saturday at noon, then take on the No. 3-ranked Bruins on Sunday at noon.
There were plenty of positives to take away from Sunday's 6-1 win over the Aggies, with Saint Mary's performing well up and down the lineup to get the win.
That started in doubles, where the Gaels earned a clean sweep to pick up the point. Jesse Kiuru and Joakim Norstrom picked up the first win at No. 1, and Seif El Sherbini and Thomas Hunt clinched things with a win at No. 3.
Singles play also went well for Saint Mary's, with Kiuru, Norstrom, Tuomas Manner, Samuel Bloore and Hunt all scoring victories.
Kiuru was the man to clinch the match, earning a 6-3, 6-4 win over Toki Sherbakov at No. 1 singles to score the coveted fourth point.
UC Riverside (2-7) lost 7-0 to Arizona in its last match. The Highlanders won the match before that, defeating Northern Arizona 4-3 for one of their two victories this season.
Jimmy Roberts leads the Highlanders at the top of the lineup, and will likely line up at No. 1 against Kiuru this weekend. Roberts is 4-8 this season, second on the team in wins.
UCLA (9-1) suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday when it lost 4-3 to USC in the semifinals of the USTA/ITA National Indoors Tournament in Washington.
That did little to take away from the outstanding start the Bruins have had this season, with wins over Stanford, Cal, Tennessee and Georgia highlighting the ledger.
Marcos Giron enters as the highest-ranked player for UCLA, checking in at No. 13 in the latest ITA rankings. Three other Bruins are ranked currently.
Saint Mary's returns home on March 1 to open West Coast Conference play against Santa Clara. That match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. The Gaels will host UC Irvine the next day at noon.
