MORAGA, Calif. — Tanner Krebs was named Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 26-Jan.1 after shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from three-point land to help Saint Mary’s defeat Loyola Marymount and San Diego in the conference’s opening week.
In the recent home win over the Toreros, Krebs fell just one point shy of his career-high 13 points after posting 12 points in 18 minutes of action. The 6-6 wing has been a key spark off the bench for the Gaels, as Krebs has provided another offensive option for head coach Randy Bennett.
“He gives us a burst all the time,” said Bennett. “Tanner is a good defender. He is a good offensive player. A good shooter needs time and minutes to let his game play out. He is like Calvin. He can put the ball on the floor. He is a freshmen and is figuring things out. Krebs is coming on at the right time for us.”
The Gaels aim to remain perfect in conference play, as the 19th-ranked team in the country will host WCC rival BYU at McKeon Pavilion on Thursday night at 8 p.m. The match will be nationally televised on ESPNU, and fans can also listen to Gaels play-by-play announcer Alex Jensen on the TuneIn radio app. For tickets, visit the tickets link on SMCGaels.com or by calling the SMC Athletic Ticket Office during weekday business hours at (925) 631-GoTx (4689).
