RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — As the season rolls on, the Saint Mary’s rowing team faced off against West Coast Conference rival Loyola Marymount and other California teams in the Hornet Invitational as the Gaels tried to grab their first win of the spring.

SMC started off the day with Varsity Eights, taking third at 8:30 a.m. and second at 9:30 a.m. with respective times of six minutes, 58.9 seconds and 7:00.6. LMU took first place in both races.

The Gaels fielded two boats in the first Varsity Four race of the day with the SMC A boat finishing second in 8:18.5. Loyola Marymount also fielded two boats with its A boat finishing first.

In the third and fourth Varsity Eight races, Saint Mary’s raced against San Diego State who ended up taking the victory in both. SMC finished second in both races with times of 7:04.5 and 6:59.4, respectively.

In the final race of the day, SDSU stole the win from the Gaels who finished second in 8:26.2.

Saint Mary’s will return to the water on Saturday, April 1 in Mission Bay at the San Diego Crew Classic.
