MORAGA, Calif. — A big nine-run outburst in the eighth inning Tuesday by the Saint Mary's baseball team turned a back-and-forth close contest into a blowout, as the Gaels swept their non-conference home-and-home series against UC Santa Barbara with a 15-5 win at Louis Guisto Field.

Saint Mary's (31-17) earned its second straight come-from-behind win and 18th of the season with 11 runs in the seventh and eighth innings combined. UC Santa Barbara (20-25) held three different leads Tuesday but wasn't able to hold on to any of them. The Gauchos led 1-0 in the first, 4-3 in the fifth and 5-4 in the sixth.

Saint Mary's batted around and then some in the eighth, posting its second nine-run inning of the year, and first since April 11 versus California. The Gaels benefited from five free passes (four walks, one hit-by-pitch) while also driving five hits, three for extra bases. Austin Piscotty and Joey Fiske both scored twice in the inning, with Piscotty clearing the bases on a three-run triple in his second at-bat to make it 13-5 at the time.

The Gaels tied a season-high with 18 hits including five doubles, a triple and five infield singles. Seven Gaels posted multi-hit games, including all of the first six players in the lineup. Brett Rasso led the way with his second four-hit performance of the year. Rasso tied a single game career-high with two doubles and two bunt singles while also scoring twice and driving in a run. Fiske went 3 for 6 with three runs scored and an RBI, combining with Rasso to go 7 for 11 at the top two spots in the order.

Eddie Haus tied a career high with four RBIs. His first three RBIs either tied the game or gave SMC the lead. He made it 2-1 in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly, tied it at 5-5 with an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth and gave the Gaels the lead for good with an RBI single in the seventh to make it 6-5.
