SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Saint Mary's baseball juniors Joey Fiske and Drew Strotman were both named to the 2017 West Coast Conference All-Academic Team Monday, while four other Gaels earned honorable mention accolades.

Fiske, a biology major with a 3.49 GPA, leads the Gaels with 76 hits and 18 stolen bases. He has started 53 games this season as SMC's center fielder and leadoff batter. He has posted three different hitting streaks of 13, 12 and nine games. He capped the regular season Sunday by extending his current streak to 13 games, including 11 multi-hit performances.

Strotman, an accounting major with a 3.70 ERA, has been an important part of the Gaels' starting rotation throughout the season and especially in the final month of the regular season. Strotman leads SMC with 74 strikeouts and a 6-1 record in 17 appearances. Saint Mary's won all three of his starts in May while pursuing a spot in the WCC Tournament. Strotman never allowed more than three earned runs during the month and struck out 26 in 20 innings pitched.

Cameron Neff, Brett Rasso Logan Steinberg and Conor Thane were all tabbed WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention. Neff, an accounting major with a 3.30 ERA, started the year as the Gaels' Friday starter and has racked up 40 strikeouts with an unblemished 4-0 record. Rasso, a business administration major with a 3.22 ERA, has been Saint Mary's everyday left fielder and No. 2 hitter behind Fiske, combining for a formidable 1-2 combo at the top of the lineup. He has collected 17 extra-base hits, 28 RBIs and nine stolen bases while ranking No. 4 in the country in sacrifice bunts.

Steinberg has been an important defensive replacement for Saint Mary's this season while also starting 14 games. He has not committed an error in 39 of his 40 appearances. Thane has started 37 games at shortstop, including every game since April 7. He also ranks among the top-10 (8th) in the nation for sacrifice bunts with 14.

The Gaels begin play in the 2017 WCC Tournament at 3 p.m. Thursday versus No. 1 seed Gonzaga at Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton. Tickets are available for purchase via the Stockton Ports website. All SMC tournament games will be streamed live on the Gaels' Gameday Central page.
