SAN BRUNO, Calif. — A total of 159 Saint Mary's student-athletes across all 16 programs were honored Thursday when the West Coast Conference announced its 2016-17 Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Thursday's announcement marked the 16th annual WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll, and for the sixth consecutive year, over 1,000 WCC student-athletes garnered honors for possessing at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. More than 1,414 student-athletes qualified for recognition, establishing a conference record for the fourth consecutive season. The 2013-14 season was the first year more than 1,200 student-athletes met the selection criteria.

The Gaels increased their number of honorees by 19 from a year ago, when they earned 140 honors. The number of Gold Honorees (4.00-3.75 GPA) also went up from 18 in 2015-16 to 22 in 2016-17. SMC earned 45 Silver Honors (3.74-3.50 GPA) and 92 Bronze Honors (3.49-3.00 GPA). Women's basketball's Devon Brookshire led Saint Mary's with a perfect 4.0 in her graduate studies in kinesiology. She was one of just 23 WCC student-athletes out of the more than 1,400 honored that had a perfect GPA.

Both the men's and women's soccer programs led Saint Mary's with 19 total honorees. Baseball and women's rowing were second with 17 each. Men's soccer led the department with four Gold Honorees.

To be considered for this honor, student-athletes must meet the following requirements:
