MORAGA, Calif. - Doug Herrick of the Saint Mary's men's soccer team has been drafted by the Portland Timbers in the 2012 Major League Soccer (MLS) Supplemental Draft. The Seattle native was drafted in the third round with the eighth pick by Portland.
"We are all very happy proud for Doug," said head coach Adam Cooper. "This is a culmination for him and the great career he's had at Saint Mary's."
As a senior, Herrick recorded a school record 11 victories with 10 shutouts as the Gaels claimed the West Coast Conference title on the final day of the season and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight, losing to eventual national champion, North Carolina.
Herrick ended his Gael career with 5,810 minutes (1st in school history), 1.04 goals against average (1st), 236 saves (6th), and 24 shutouts (1st).
The All-WCC recipient was also stellar in the classroom as he maintained a 3.50 GPA in Biology, being named to the NSCAA Collegiate Scholar All-America Team.
