MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's lacrosse team (0-1, 0-1 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) hosts UC Davis (1-0, 1-0 MPSF) on Thursday at 7:00 p.m., the first-ever collegiate night game on campus. The first 50 fans in attendance will be given SMC water bottles, while the first 25 students in attendance will receive Chipotle gift cards.
The Gaels, playing home games this season on the new SMC Recreation Field, had their home opener last weekend and dropped a conference game to California. Jaclyn Biggers and Amanda Cross scored two goals each for the Gaels in the loss, while Anna Turpit and Caroline Mahony also scored for SMC. In goal, Kathleen Worsdale saved six shots.
UC Davis opened the year at MPSF newcomer San Diego State as the Aggies came away with an 18-7 victory. Elizabeth Datino led all scorers with four goals, while Hannah Mirza added three scores. Lauren Nardi, Allie Lehner, Stephanie Guercio and Charlotte Morris scored two goals each.
Last year Saint Mary's and UC Davis met as the Aggies came away with the 21-12 victory. The Gaels played a great first-half and led at halftime by a 7-6 score. SMC and UC Davis were tied in the second-half at 10-10 with 20:09 remaining, but UCD ended the game on an 11-2 run to close out the victory.
For the Gaels, Mariah Walk scored three times while Juliet Munroe and Jillian Chong scored two goals each.
Thursday's match-up will be considered an MPSF game as the squads will meet for the second time later this season at Davis.
After the UC Davis game concludes SMC's two-game homestand to open the season. On March 2-4, Saint Mary's travels to San Diego to take on San Diego State and Detroit Mercy. On March 9-12, the Gaels travel to Colorado to take on Denver, Marist and Quinnipiac.
