Colorado Springs, Colo. - In what is becoming an annual winter tradition, 11 members of the Saint Mary's women's volleyball team traveled to Colorado Springs, Colo. to participate in the annual U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts held February 10-12 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center. 207 athletes from around the country attended the tryouts in an attempt to make the U.S. National Team and the U.S National A2 Program.
Juniors Lauren Corp, Gabby Jolly, Anna Schroeder and Missy White, were joined by sophomores Jordan Shaw, Rachel Gillcrist, Kristina Graven, Sarah Reams, and freshmen Samantha Tinsley, Mileva Popovic and Milena Popovic.
Among the 207 tryout participants representing 73 different colleges were 55 outside hitters, 49 middle blockers, 44 liberos, 37 setters and 22 opposites. The 2012 tryouts are open to current college-age athletes and older. Athletes in college and with collegiate eligibility remaining for the 2012 collegiate season not selected to join the U.S. Women's National Team may be invited to participate with the U.S. Women's Senior A2 program.

This program is scheduled to take place in Columbus, Ohio, from June 26 through July 5. A projected 48 athletes will be invited to participate in the program, which will include training and competing at the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships (GJNC) from July 1-4.
Last year, Shaw and Loos were selected to the A2 Junior National Team that won gold at the 2011 European Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia.
