MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's men's tennis team returned to action on Saturday with a 5-2 win at home over UC Davis on a windy day in Moraga. The Gaels swept through singles play and won on four-of-six singles courts to earn the 5-2 win over the Aggies.
Saint Mary's improves to 4-7 with their second consecutive win, while UC Davis dropped to 3-8 on the season.
The Gaels opened up the day with solid play on all three doubles courts. Sherif Hamdy and Seif El Sherbini earned the first win of the day on court three with an 8-4 win over Aria/Sherbakov. Saad Benkirane and Maxime Olivan clinched the point for SMC on court two, as the duo defeated Albert and Haley 8-4.
Steven Dawson-Roberts and Joakim Norstrom completed the doubles sweep for Saint Mary's with an 8-6 win on court one.
Norstrom added to the Gaels lead with a quick singles win on court four, defeating Verdi-Fortin 6-2, 6-3. After UCD earned a win on court two, El Sherbini put SMC up 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 5 spot.
Olivan clinched the match on court one, topping Sherbakov 7-5, 6-3. Hamdy also got a singles win on court three, defeating Aria 4-6, 6-0 (10-4).
The Gaels return to action next weekend with a match against Idaho. SMC will host the Vandals on Friday, March 9 at 3 p.m.
