MORAGA, Calif. - Carli Rosenthal of the Saint Mary's women's basketball team is headed to New York to tryout for the 2013 Maccabiah Games. The sophomore post made an immediate impact for the Gaels last season, being selected to the West Coast Conference All-Freshman team.
"I am really excited and can't wait for this experience," said Rosenthal. "I feel very grateful for this opportunity and can't wait to get on the court."
Rosenthal was invited to the tryout held this weekend (August 4-5) and will later find out if she makes the roster for the 2013 games held in Israel in the month of July.
As a freshman at SMC in 2011-12, Rosenthal started 30-of-33 games, playing 21.4 minutes per game with averages of 4.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Some of Rosenthal's first-year highlights included grabbing 14 rebounds with eight points in the season opener against No. 19 DePaul. Also at the Maggie Dixon Classic, she grabbed an offensive rebound and put-back for the game-winner at the buzzer. She had several double-doubles (points and rebounds), including a career-high 15 points with 12 rebounds in a WCC win against Loyola Marymount.
The 2012-13 Gaels will return 10 letterwinners which includes starters Rosenthal, Mauldin and Nared. Two more former starters (Kate Gaze and Ashlee Smith) will also return after using redshirt years last season.
