Khayla Jones of the Saint Mary's women's soccer team has been named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week, it was announced on Monday morning. This is Jones' second award of the day, after earning a College Sports Madness West Coast Player of the Week award.
Jones was joined by athletes from several strong schools. Casey Short, Kassey Kallman, Tiana Brockway and Ines Jaurena from Florida State, Kristen Mewis of Boston College, Daphne Corboz of Georgetown, Megan Miller of Oregon State, Hayley Brock of Maryland, Kate Schwindel of West Virginia and Zakiya Bywaters of UCLA.
The Pinole native faced 17 shots in a 1-0 victory over UC Davis and made nine saves to open the tournament. In the championship against Bucknell, Jones faced eight shots and made three saves.
The Gaels are 4-1-1 over their last six matches, giving up only two goals in that stretch.
