MORAGA, Calif. -- In just its second full tournament of the fall season, the Saint Mary's women's tennis team returns home looking to turn hard work in practice into results as it hosts the Saint Mary's Fall Invitational.
The tournament, which runs Friday through Sunday, will take place both on campus and at Moraga Country Club thanks to the club loaning use of its courts. Play begins Friday at 8:30 a.m., with weekend action beginning at 9 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
Headlining the draw for Saint Mary's is Jenny Jullien, who enters fresh off a run to the semifinals of the Cal Nike Invitational and two wins at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championship. In addition to her singles play, Jullien will be active in doubles as well, teaming with Audrey Leitz for the second tournament in a row. Jullien and Leitz advanced to the flight A final at Cal.
Returning to action for Saint Mary's this weekend is senior Catherine Isip, who takes the court for her first tournament of the season. The Anaheim native is a three-time first team all-West Coast Conference selection, and will look to use the home court advantage to start the 2012-13 season well.
Also competing for the Gaels in singles and looking for good results will be junior Jade Frampton and sophomore Danielle Flores. Jullien and Leitz enter as the likely No. 1 seeds in the doubles draw.
There'll be plenty of competition for the Gaels, with schools from up and down the West Coast in attendance. California, Cal Poly, UC Davis, Gonzaga, Pacific, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, San Jose State, Stanford, San Francisco and Washington will all be in action.
