STANFORD, Calif. -- The Saint Mary's women's tennis team will head to the South Bay this weekend as Stanford hosts the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Tennis Championship at Taube Family Tennis Stadium from Friday through next Tuesday.
The tournament winner will automatically qualify for the ITA National Indoor Championships held in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. from Nov. 8-11.
The Gaels enter fresh off a weekend spent at home, with the recently concluded Saint Mary's Fall Invitational serving as a prelude to this weekend's action.
Last weekend, Jade Frampton led the Gaels by reaching the ITA Red singles semifinals and the ITA Red doubles finals with partner Danielle Flores.
Also figuring to factor this weekend are Jenny Jullien and Audrey Leitz, who were finalists in doubles at the Cal Nike Invitational earlier this season. Jullien will be a player to watch in singles as well, after reaching the semifinals at Cal and winning two matches at the ITA All-American Championships. And, one week after making her season debut, Catherine Isip will look to continue building her early-season form.
The Gaels will find the region's best players waiting for them. Stanford and California will each bring several players ranked in the ITA's preseason rankings, with the No. 1-ranked player in the country, Stanford's Nicole Gibbs, headlining a tough singles field.
