While Saint Mary's cannot win the WCC title, the Gaels can improve on their position and move up into second-place in the WCC, along with improving their RPI which stands at 32. San Francisco enters the week with an RPI of 54 while Santa Clara is at 41.
The Gaels will honor their four seniors Lauren Corp, Gabby Jolly, Anna Schroeder and Missy White in a ceremony before first serve against Santa Clara.
Last week the Gaels recorded back-to-back sweeps at Gonzaga and Portland. In Spokane, the Gaels hit over .500 in the first two sets and defeated the Bulldogs 25-13, 25-23, 25-22. Kristina Graven had 13 kills on .393 hitting while Gabby Jolly added 12 kills on .600 hitting.
Saint Mary's defeated the Pilots 25-21, 25-20, 26-24, holding off an inspired effort by the Pilots. Graven led the Gaels with 15 kills and 10 digs while Lauren Corp added 10 kills.
San Francisco has a few big wins this season including two wins against California and a win last week over Pepperdine in four sets.
USF is led by Ester DeVries with 3.53 kills per set while Jocelyn Levig adds 3.39 kills per set. Leanna Ludes averages 10.17 assists per set and the Dons hit at a .232 clip.
The last time SMC and USF met was on October 27, a 25-22, 25-20, 29-27 sweep for the Gaels. Jolly led the Gaels with 15 kills while Corp finished with 12.
Saint Mary's leads the all-time series 33-22, winning six of the last seven meetings. The Gaels have won three consecutive matches in War Memorial Gym.
Santa Clara enters the week with 20 wins, including season series splits with both San Diego, BYU and Pepperdine. SCU also has a non-conference win over San Diego State (RPI 46).
SCU is led by Megan Anders with 3.10 kills per set while Taylor Milton adds 2.94 kills per set. As a team, SCU hits at a .226 clip.
Saint Mary's has defeated Santa Clara 10-straight times, which includes five sweeps. On October 25, the Gaels swept Santa Clara at the Leavey Center 25-15, 25-20, 25-23. Saint Mary's hit at a .340 clip for the match.
