SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team had two student-athletes earn 2012 West Coast Conference All-Academic honorable mention on Monday. Lauren Corp and Rachel Gillcrist were honorable mention selections representing the Gaels on the team.
The WCC states that an honoree must have a minimum of a 3.20 cumulative GPA, be a starter or important reserve, have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing, with at least one year in residence completed at the nomination institution. Also, the student-athlete must participate in 50 percent of all matches and freshmen, red shirt freshmen and transfers (first-year) are ineligible.
The Gaels have maintained one of the top team GPA's on campus and had several players meeting the minimum of a 3.20 cumulative GPA.
Corp owns a 3.408 in politics and will finish her Saint Mary's career with the third most kills in school history with 1,242 career kills. She has been named to the All-West Coast Conference team in each of her three previous seasons.
Gillcrist owns a 3.612 GPA in Psychology. She has had an important role this year as a middle blocker off the SMC bench. Gillcrist has started six matches this year and has recorded at least four kills in each of her last three matches. For the year she has 38 kills and 59 blocks.
The other Gaels who meet the minimum GPA, but not the other listed criteria include Kristina Graven (3.874) in Psychology, Danica Mendivil (3.774) in Psychology, Missy White (3.39) in Psychology, Dalas Dodd (3.444) in Business Administration and Anna Schroeder (3.864) in Liberal and Civic Studies.
