WBK | Gaels Host Home Openers Against Butler, Chattanooga

MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's women's basketball team (1-2) plays its first home games of the year this weekend in the Saint Mary's Hilton Concord Thanksgiving Classic on November 23-24. Joining the Gaels in the Classic are Chattanooga, Butler and Portland State.

The predetermined match-ups in the Classic are as follows: Friday at 12:00 p.m. (Portland State vs. Chattanooga), Friday at 2:00 p.m. (Saint Mary's vs. Butler), Saturday at 12:00 p.m. (Portland State vs. Butler), Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (Saint Mary's vs. Chattanooga). All games will be played in McKeon Pavilion on the SMC campus.

Promotions for Friday and Saturday include a Canned Food Drive.  Participants can enter a raffle ticket for every iteme of food they donate.  There is also a Tournament Ticket Pass being sold for $15 which gets you into all four games.

Saint Mary's is 2-0 all-time against Butler, having victories over the Bulldogs in 1995 and 2005. The Gaels and Lady Mocs have never met, although Chattanooga has made a trip to McKeon Pavilion. The Lady Mocs were part of the 2004-05 SMC Thanksgiving Classic and went 2-0 with wins over Northwestern (LA) and Washington State.

The Gaels enter the week at 1-2, playing all Pac-12 schools. The Gaels dropped a season-opener at Washington by two points, then defeated Oregon in Eugene. SMC traveled to Cal and lost to the 12th-ranked Golden Bears.

Jackie Nared leads the Gaels with 16.7 ppg and 9.7 rpg. Danielle Mauldin had double-doubles in her first two games and was named WCC Player of the Week during the opening week of play. Mauldin is averaging 11.3 ppg and 10.0 rpg.

With no home games so far, the Gaels are shooting 33.5 percent from the field and 24.5 percent from behind the arc. SMC is outrebounding its opponents 143 - 119. Last year the Gaels finished in the nation's top-10 in rebounding margin.
