MORAGA, Calif. - Saint Mary's women's basketball head coach Paul Thomas announced the signing of Sabrina Engelstad (Brentwood, Calif. / Heritage HS) to a National Letter of Intent. A 6-foot-3 post, Engelstad has earned numerous honors and maintains a high GPA. She will join the Gaels for the 2013-14 season.

"Sabrina's skill set fits into our system and philosophy on both ends of the floor," said Thomas. "She is a post player that has perimeter skills, they just need to be refined... Sabrina will also help us in the rebounding phase of the game. Her Dad played Division I and professional basketball, so she has an understanding what it takes to play at a high level."

In three years of varsity basketball at Heritage HS, Englestad is the all-time leader in blocked shots and was the team's leading scorer and rebounder during the 2011-12 season. She has been named to the All Bay Valley Athletic League in each season, along with several tournament MVP awards.

Her father, Wayne Engelstad played for the Denver Nuggets during the 1988-89 season.

She joins Alia McCoy (Canyon Country, Calif. / Canyon HS) as SMC's first two signees for the upcoming 2013-14 season.
