MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's women's basketball team allowed 13 three-pointers and lost to Pacific by a 75-72 score on Thursday night in McKeon Pavilion.
With the loss, Saint Mary's drops to 7-4 while Pacific improves to 8-2.
Saint Mary's was led by Jackie Nared with 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Danielle Mauldin added 13 points and six rebounds. Kate Gaze came off the bench to add 12 points and three assists.
Pacific was led by Kendall Rodriguez who scored 19 points including five three-pointers. The Tigers also had three others in double-figures.
The Gaels led 40-35 in the first half and built an eight point lead in the second half. SMC led 57-49 with 9:08 remaining after Mauldin scored in the paint. From that point, Pacific started to fire off three pointers with success, quickly gaining the lead at 58-57 after three consecutive threes by Rodriguez.
Saint Mary's fell behind by nine points at 71-62 with 3:08 remaining before making a final charge. The Gaels chipped away and pulled within 71-69 after Mauldin sank a pair of free-throws.
After Pacific went up by four points, Gaze scored an and-one to pull SMC within 73-72. The Gaels missed a jumper with 10 seconds left and Pacific grabbed the rebound.
Rodriguez sank both free-throws to give the Tigers a 75-72 advantage with nine seconds left. The Gaels raced up the court but a three-pointer bounced off the front rim and the time ran out for SMC.
Saint Mary's is back in action on Sunday, December 30 when it hosts George Washington at 12:00 p.m.
