LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. -- Saint Mary's senior Ben Geyer shot an opening round 69 and sits just one stroke behind the leaders at the 2nd Annual Patriot All-America on the Gold Course at The Wigwam.

A total of 15 players are within two shots of the lead on the 6,948-yard par 70 course. Sebastian Cappelen and Kevin Penner shot 2-under par 68 to tie for the lead, while Geyer is tied with four other players who are just one shot back.

Second round action will begin at 10 a.m. off both the 1st and 10th tees.  The final round is scheduled for Monday at 9:30 a.m.

After carding a bogey on the 540-yard, par 5 fourth hole to go 1-over, Geyer rebounded with birdies on the two par 3 holes on the back to finish his round at 1-under 69.

The 54-hole amateur event, which features 84 nationally recognized college players in a holiday bowl-like experience is the combined effort of the Arizona Golf Association, the Golf Coaches Association of America and the Wigwam Golf Resort in conjunction with the tournament’s beneficiary, the Folds of Honor Foundation.

The tournament field includes PING All-Americans from the previous season in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, as well as All-Americans from the NAIA, NJCAA and AJGA ranks
