MORAGA, Calif. -- After hitting a pair of clutch free throws to give the Gaels a thrilling one-point win over Harvard last night, Saint Mary's senior men's basketball forward Mitchell Young was named this week's SMC Student-Athlete of the Week.
The Logan, Queensland, Australia native helped lead the Gaels to three wins over the last five days by averaging 11.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game in victories over Rhode Island, Yale and Harvard. He scored 16 points with eight rebounds in last night's 70-69 win over the Crimson and his two free throws with just 1.1 seconds on the clock helped keep the Gaels undefeated at home this season.
On the season, Young averages 7.1 points and 5.4 rebound per game and is shooting .528 from the field. He is also 3-of-6 from behind the 3-point arc and has made 20 of 27 free throws.
