MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's women's basketball team (8-4, 0-0 West Coast Conference) begins its WCC portion of the schedule this week when it travels to San Francisco (7-6, 0-0 WCC) and Loyola Marymount (6-7, 0-0 WCC).
On Thursday night, the Gaels travel to USF for a 7:00 p.m. tip at War Memorial Gym. On Saturday, the Gaels take on the Lions at Gersten Pavilion at 2:00 p.m.
Saint Mary's enters WCC play with an 8-4 overall record and is road tested after playing eight of its first 10 games on the road. The Gaels last played on Sunday, December 30 and cruised past George Washington 79-49 as Jackie Nared (21p, 11r) and Danielle Mauldin (16p, 12r) recorded double-doubles. The Gaels outscored the Colonials 45-23 in the second half and shot 49.1 percent from the field. SMC outrebounded GW 45-33.
Nared enters WCC play as the leading scorer in the conference, averaging 19.1 ppg and is second in rebounding with 9.8 rpg. Danielle Mauldin leads the WCC in rebounding with 10.8 rpg while her 14.8 ppg ranks fifth in the conference. Kate Gaze is also in double figures averaging 10.3 ppg.
SMC is 31-22 all-time against San Francisco having won 13 of the last 15 meetings. It was the Dons however, pulling off a 66-64 win over the Gaels at War Memorial Gym in the last meeting between the two squads.
SMC is 37-16 all-time against LMU as the Gaels have won six of the last seven meetings. Last year the Gaels won 82-72 at LMU, and returned to Moraga and defeated the Lions 61-56.
