MORAGA, Calif. -- Following a pair of outstanding performances last week, Saint Mary's men's basketball guard Stephen Holt is this week's SMC Student-Athlete of the Week.
A junior from Portland, Ore., Holt averaged 19.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game as the Gaels split a pair of West Coast Conference games at Gonzaga and at home against longtime rival San Francisco. He shot 14-of-25 from the field for 56 percent in the two games and he shot a perfect 6-for-6 from inside the 3-point arc at Gonzaga.
Against the Bulldogs, Holt scored a career-high 23 points including 15 in a second-half effort that saw the Gaels erase a 20-point deficit to come within one point late in the game.
The Gaels return to action with a pair of WCC games this week. SMC plays at BYU Wednesday night in an 8 p.m. tipoff on ESPNU. Saturday, the Gaels travel to Portland to face the Pilots in a 7:30 p.m. game on Comcast SportsNet California.
