With the win, Saint Mary's improves to 12-5, 4-1 West Coast Conference, while Pepperdine drops to 4-12, 1-4 WCC.
For the first time this season, someone not named Jackie Nared or Danielle Mauldin led the Gaels in scoring as Kate Gaze poured in 15 points on 5-for-10 shooting, including 3-for-4 from long range.
Jackie Nared added 12 points and 14 rebounds in 30 minutes, while Danielle Mauldin finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Morgan Hatten scored 10 points with six rebounds and four assists, while Carli Rosenthal just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds in 21 minutes.
SMC scored 15 points off the bench, led by Mia Greco with seven points. The Gaels grabbed 52 rebounds, including 21 on the offensive glass. The 21 offensive rebounds was the most since the December 20th game against Pacific.
The Gaels also had 17 assists on 25 field-goals which is the second highest mark for SMC this year.
Pepperdine was led by Kelsey Patrick with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
In the first half, the Gaels opened up a 26-12 lead after Greco scored in the paint with 7:52 left in the half. Pepperdine would not pull closer than nine points the rest of the half as the Gaels led 37-24 at the intermission.
The Gaels opened up a 42-27 lead after a Hatten three-pointer with 15:49 remaining. SMC extended its lead to 63-43 after a Gaze three pointer with 6:08 remaining. SMC would go on to cruise to the win as Pepperdine made its run with under two minutes left. SMC never let Pepperdine closer than 10 points the rest of the way.
Saint Mary's is back in action on Thursday when it takes on the Broncos in Santa Clara. Tip is set for 7:00 p.m. on the SCU campus.
