SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The Saint Mary's women's tennis team was picked to finish second this season in a poll of West Coast Conference coaches released Thursday.
Last year's regular season champion, Pepperdine, received six first-place votes and 61 overall votes to be picked first in the poll. The Gaels received three first-place votes and 56 overall votes to come in second.
San Diego, which won the WCC Tournament title by upsetting Pepperdine last season, came in third with 54 votes.
Santa Clara, BYU, Loyola Marymount, San Francisco, Gonzaga and Portland rounded out the poll.
The WCC Preseason All-Conference team was also announced, and Gaels No. 1 singles player Jenny Jullien earned a spot on the six-player list.
Ranked No. 64 nationally, Jullien started the spring season 3-1, with all three wins coming over players ranked in the top 30.
Saint Mary's is back in action this weekend as it travels to San Diego, Calif. to take on Washington and host San Diego State. The Gaels make their home debut on Feb. 10 when they host Cal Poly at 11 a.m.
