SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Squaring off with a comparably-ranked team in Washington, the Saint Mary's women's tennis team couldn't quite pick up the points it needed to in losing to the Huskies 5-2 on Saturday.
The match was played at San Diego State, with Saint Mary's (1-2) playing matches on Saturday and Sunday during the trip.
No. 44-ranked Washington (6-1) earned the doubles point early, getting wins at No. 1 and 3 to take a 1-0 lead into singles action.
In singles, the No. 40-ranked Gaels got another outstanding performance from No. 1 singles player Jenny Jullien. A 6-1, 6-0 win over Grace Ysidora pushed Jullien's spring record to 4-1, and gave her a fourth win over a ranked opponent. Ysidora entered the spring ranked No. 107.
Catherine Leduc earned Saint Mary's other point, winning at No. 5 singles when her opponent, Capucine Gregoire, had to retire.
Catherine Isip, Danielle Flores and Jade Frampton played to a third set in their matches, but Washington ultimately pulled those out.
Saint Mary's is back on the court Sunday at 11 a.m. when they take on the host Aztecs.
