MORAGA, Calif. -- Saint Mary's cross country and track head coach Marty Kinsey announced Wednesday that Alexandra (Ali) Teliha has signed a letter of intent to run for the Gaels next season.

Teliha is a standout cross country, track and tennis athlete for Bullard High School in Fresno, Calif. She also played on the varsity soccer team her sophomore year, a team that qualified for the state finals.

"Ali is an excellent addition to our team and college. Her performances in the classroom and on the track have been exemplary over the past four years," Kinsey said. "Being a three-sport athlete, it's very encouraging to see how well she has performed under the unique circumstances in which she practiced and developed. It has been an absolute pleasure recruiting both her and her family to Saint Mary's."

Teliha's brilliant career started her freshman year when she qualified for both the CIF Cross Country and Track & Field Championships, finishing 13th in the 1600m in 5:07.39.

She followed that up her sophomore year with a 52nd place finish in the CIF Cross Country Championships (DI - 18:46) and a nearly 18 second personal best in the 1600m (4:49.73), a top ten performance for sophomores in the United States.

Her junior year saw a major improvement in cross country, finishing the State Championship in 18:15 (DI - 11th) and her third straight track & field State Championships.

This past fall saw Teliha post another top-20 performance in the CIF Cross Country Championships, setting new personal bests for 3 miles (16:36) and 5K (17:55).

"Saint Mary's gained a great student-athlete and person today. Academically, she's No. 1 in her class of over 500 students. Athletically, she's a very talented, hard-working runner. We're looking forward to seeing her flourish here in Moraga," said Kinsey.

Ali's mother, Linda Hooke-Teliha, was also a standout runner at Bullard High School, still owning the 800-meter school record of 2:14. When Ali was a freshman she broke Linda's longtime 1600-meter record. She also has the third fastest 1600 time in the Central Valley (Jordan Hasay is currently No. 1 with a time of 4:42.5).

Teliha's personal bests:

3 mile: 16:36, Woodbridge Invite (4th)
