MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's baseball team (4-3) hosts No. 14 Stanford (5-2) on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the new Louis Guisto Field.
Saint Mary's is coming off a three-game sweep over Chicago State. The Gaels won the games by scores of 7-5, 3-2 and 15-0.
The headline game of the series was the 15-0 game which saw starting pitcher Ryan Brockett hurl a no-hitter. The WCC Pitcher of the Week honoree went 9.0 innings, allowing, 0 runs, 0 hits, 2 walks and struck out 11. He threw 113 pitches, 77 for strikes.
Several Gaels had big weekends against the Cougars, including Anthony Villa. The freshman third baseman went 6-for-13 with three doubles and seven RBI. Markus Melgosa had a huge catch in the no-hit game. In the second inning, Melgosa dove all out for a shallow fly ball and made the catch, spectacular at the time, and even later once it became apparent the no-hitter was in the works.
After the match-up with Stanford, the Gaels will head to southern California to take on UC Riverside on March 1-3, then head to UC Santa Barbara on March 4.
Saint Mary's begins a 13-game homestand on March 8th when it hosts Utah.
After losing 2-of-3 at Rice, Stanford returned home to win four consecutive games. The Cardinal defeated Cal, then swept a three-game series against Fresno State.
