SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Senior guard Matthew Dellavedova became the fifth Saint Mary's men's basketball player to earn three all-West Coast Conference first team recognitions, the league office announced today.

Dellavedova, a native of Maryborough, Victoria, Australia, earned first team all-WCC honors in each of the last three seasons and was the 2012 league player of the year.  He is a two-time academic all-America honoree and is a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, given to the nation's top point guard.

He is the Gaels' all-time career leader in scoring, assists, 3-point field goals and games started and is the NCAA's second-highest active career leader in assists. He has led Saint Mary's to a stellar 106-26 record and three postseason appearances in his three seasons.

Dellavedova joins David Vann (1980-82), Robert Haugen (1987-89), Daniel Kickert (2004-06) and Diamon Simpson (2007-09) as the Gaels' only other 3-time first team honorees.

Junior guard Stephen Holt was named to the all-league honorable mention side for the second-straight year.

All nine West Coast Conference teams head to Las Vegas to compete for the conference championship and subsequent automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.  Action tips off at the 2013 West Coast Conference Basketball Championships Wednesday, March 6, when No. 8 Portland takes on 9-seed Loyola Marymount at 6:00 p.m.

Saint Mary's enters the WCC Championships as the tournament's number two seed after posting an impressive 26-5 overall record and 14-2 mark in league play.  The Gaels earned two byes to the event's semifinals and will play at 8:30 p.m. Saturday night on ESPN2.
