BERKELEY, Calif. -- The Saint Mary's lacrosse team fell behind 6-1 early in Tuesday's match against host Cal and couldn't come all the way back, falling 18-9 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match in Berkeley.
Saint Mary's (1-3 MPSF) fell behind 2-0, but an early goal by Amanda Cross cut the deficit in half.
Cal (1-2, 1-0 MPSF) responded with four goals in a row, and eventually took an 8-3 lead into halftime.
After the break, the Gaels turned the offense on. Allie DeBruhl scored two of her team-high three goals in the second half, and Saint Mary's found the net six times after halftime to finish with nine.
Among those goals came the first collegiate goal for freshman Kellie Barker. The native of Castle Rock, Colo. got her first point as a Gael on an unassisted goal with 5:26 left to play.
Cross and Jaclyn Biggers each finished with two goals on the evening. Jillian Chong scored the Gaels other goal.
Saint Mary's returns home to take on Marquette on Sunday at 1 p.m. The team won't play at home again until March 29 when it hosts Stetson.
