MORAGA, Calif. - Caroline Beaulne of the Saint Mary's women's soccer team has been selected to participate in the Canada U-20 National Excel camp in Portland, Ore., from March 16-25.
"Beau has used the SMC women's soccer environment to elevate her level of play," said head coach Kai Edwards. "Her teammates and the coaching staff are very excited for her. She competed at the u17 and u20 World cup and this camp will prepare Canada for the 2014 u20 World Cup . If she can continue to play at a high level and make the next u20 world cup roster she would complete a rare event which would be competing in two u20 world cups in her career. We wish her luck."
Beaulne is one of 23 players selected to the camp which features players from the 1994-96 age groups from Canada. The group is scheduled to play a friendly match against Portland on March 22.
Beaulne had an outstanding freshman year for the Gaels. She scored two game-winning goals during the Saint Mary's Tournament and was named the tournament MVP after scoring the game-winners against UC Davis and Bucknell. She played 1222 minutes with two goals and three assists.
"Getting the invitation to go to the camp made me really excited," said Beaulne. "I loved my experience with the U17 and I would love to do the same with the U19. Saint Mary's prepared me well and gave me a lot of great qualities that I will use during the camp. My teammates also helped me a lot get better and pushed me so I can play at my best. I thank them and my coaches for that. "
