MORAGA, Calif. -- A tense battle between two nationally ranked teams went against the No. 52-ranked Saint Mary's women's tennis team Tuesday, as the Gaels dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 25 Tulsa.
Tulsa claimed the doubles point, winning at No. 1 and 3 to start with the lead. The Golden Hurricane also led at No. 2 when it clinched the first point.
A win at No. 6 singles put Tulsa up 2-0, but Saint Mary's (7-7) stormed back to get into the match.
Danielle Flores claimed a 7-6, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles to get the Gaels on the board. Jade Frampton followed with a three-set win at No. 5 to square the match at 2.
The Gaels and Golden Hurricane traded the next two points, with Tulsa winning at No. 4 and Catherine Isip evening things with a win at No. 2.
That left only the No. 1 singles match to decide things, with Saint Mary's top player Jenny Jullien squaring off with Samantha Vickers. Jullien took the first set 7-6, but Vickers rebounded to win the next two and win the match.
Saint Mary's returns to action on Friday at 2 p.m. against Oklahoma.
