MORAGA, Calif. – The Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team (20-10) hosts Seattle (20-10) in a Women’s National Invitation Tournament game on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. in McKeon Pavilion. This is the fourth consecutive postseason appearance for the Gaels who have won 82 games over that four-year span.

Saint Mary’s is 4-0 all-time against Seattle as the Gaels and Redhawks met in each of the past four seasons. The last match-up was a 71-70 win at SU on December 17, 2011. In the win, the Gaels overcame not scoring for the first nine minutes of the game and falling into an early 12-0 hole. SMC battled back and Jasmine Smith scored the winning jumper with 9.7 seconds left.

The Gaels have won each of the games in McKeon Pavilion against SU by double-digit margins.

Saint Mary’s is aiming to improve to 10-0 this season, in games after a loss. SMC was last in action two weeks ago at the WCC Tournament. The Gaels won their quarterfinal game against Portland, then dropped a semifinal game to San Diego.

SMC is led by its All-WCC First-Team duo of Danielle Mauldin and Jackie Nared. Mauldin enters the game with 17 double-doubles and led the WCC in rebounding with her 10.8 rpg. She also ranked in the WCC top-5 in points per game with 13.8. Nared led the WCC in scoring at 16.6 ppg and was second in rebounds with 8.7 rpg. Nared enters the WNIT with 13 double-doubles.

Seattle entered the Western Athletic Conference tournament as the No. 1 seed, after winning 15-of-18 WAC games. At the WAC Tournament, also at the Orleans Arena, the Redhawks defeated New Mexico State and Louisiana Tech, before falling in the championship game to Idaho by a 67-64 score.

Kacie Sowell leads SU with 16.6 ppg and 9.8 rpg. She is one of four SU players in double figures as Sylvia Shephard averages 13.4 ppg, Ashley Ward is at 13.2 ppg and Daidra Brown is at 10.1 ppg.
