SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The second round of the Wyoming Cowboy Classic was cancelled today due to high winds and the Saint Mary's golf team sits in a tie for seventh-place after 18 holes at Talking Stick Golf Club.
The 22nd-ranked Gaels are tied with the University of Colorado for seventh-place in the 24-team field after shooting a 26-over par 306, equaling the team's highest single round score of the season. Wichita State leads the tournament with a 14-over 294, while Gonzaga sits in second with a 19-over 299.
Individually, sophomore Jonathan De Los Reyes is tied with three other players for sixth place overall despite shooting a 3-over par 73. Senior Mac McClung is tied for 20th place with a 5-over 75. Ben Geyer shot an 8-over par 78 and is tied with 15 players for 54th place.
"The conditions today were about as tough as they could get and still be playable," said SMC head coach Scott Hardy. "The greens were very firm and the gusty winds made play extremely difficult."
The field will return to the 7,133-yard, par 70 North Course at Talking Stick Golf Club for the tournament's final round with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start. The Gaels are paired with Old Dominion, Tulsa and Colorado.
