BERKELEY, Calif. -- An early home run by Sarah Lira kept the Saint Mary's softball team in the game but late offense by Cal proved the difference as the Bears won 10-2 in six innings at Levine-Fricke Field.
Saint Mary's (12-25) trailed 2-0 after one inning, but got those runs back in the top of the second.
Christine Torrise led off with a walk, and Lira turned a Nikki Owens pitch around, depositing it over the left field fence to even the score.
A home run by Cheyenne Cordes put Cal up 3-2 in the fourth, and the Bears went on to score three in the fifth and four in the sixth to end the game.
Brittany Sabatini and Katelyn Mamizuka each collected a hit for Saint Mary's, with Mamizuka's coming in a pinch-hit role.
Saint Mary's now returns home for its final home series of the season when it hosts a pair of doubleheaders against Santa Clara. Action begins on both Saturday and Sunday at noon.
