MORAGA, Calif. -- With Pepperdine's win at BYU on Friday, the Saint Mary's women's tennis team now knows that it will share the West Coast Conference championship it secured last weekend.

Saint Mary's finished the regular season 7-1, defeating Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount in its final two matches to clinch at least a share of the title. Santa Clara could also join the Gaels and Waves atop the standings with two wins this weekend.

It is the second WCC title in the last four seasons for the Gaels, who won the WCC Tournament in 2010. With full round-robin play beginning in 2012, the regular season champion is now considered the conference champion.

The title comes in a season of firsts for Saint Mary's. Jenny Jullien became the Gaels' highest-ranked player ever when she ascended to No. 18 in late February. She is currently ranked No. 20.

Saint Mary's also pulled off a team first, defeating No. 7-ranked Stanford 4-3 for the program's first win over a top-10 team.

The Gael will compete at next week's WCC Championships at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.
