SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- With the regular season now concluded, the Saint Mary's men's tennis team embarks on its second season as it begins play at the West Coast Conference Tennis Championships on Wednesday against Portland at 12:30 p.m.

The Gaels received the No. 6 seed in the tournament after finishing the season 3-5 in conference play. The Pilots are the No. 7 seed with a 2-6 mark.

Saint Mary's will be looking to bounce back when it starts tournament play, as the Gaels dropped a tight 4-3 decision to Sacramento State on Sunday to finish the regular season.

In that match, Saint Mary's played particularly well in doubles, winning the point thanks to victories at No. 2 and 3.

The Pilots are also looking to turn things around in the conference tournament after suffering losses to San Francisco and Santa Clara on the final weekend of the regular season.

Saint Mary's won the regular season meeting between the two teams on March 24 in Moraga. The Gaels won the doubles point, then got singles wins from Thomas Hunt, Tuomas Manner and Samuel Bloore to clinch the victory.

If Saint Mary's can win Wednesday's match, it will advance to Thursday's quarterfinal match against No. 3 San Diego. Live results and post-match videos can be viewed throughout the tournament on WCCSports.com.
