MORAGA, Calif. – Amanda Glass, a former California Golden Bear, has transferred and will join the Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team and will play in the 2013 season, announced head coach Kai Edwards. Glass (Danville, Calif./California/San Ramon Valley HS), will play her senior year with the Gaels, after being a starting defender last year at Cal.

"Amanda brings NCAA experience to the Gaels,” said Edwards. “She is a great personality with a lot of great experiences at the highest level. As a former captain at Cal, she brings a leadership quality that we will see in the locker room right away. We are excited to bring a player of Amanda's quality to our back line for this coming fall."

Glass has played in 45 career games in three seasons at Cal. Last year she started 16 of the 22 games at defender for the Golden Bears.

"I'm looking forward to working hard and bonding with my new teammates and coaches in order to make it a fun and successful season,” said Glass.

Honors achieved at Cal include being named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention squad and earning a spot on the Hawaii All-Tournament Team in 2011.

"I can bring my experience and leadership skills to SMC and a great deal of enthusiasm towards a team of women that I look forward to playing with and getting to know,” continued Glass.

The Gaels return 16 letter-winners from the 2012 squad and are currently playing their spring season. Saint Mary’s has one more play date scheduled for Saturday with matches against Dominican and semi-pro California Storm. The matches will take place on the SMC campus.
