MORAGA, Calif. – Brenden Kalfus of the Saint Mary’s baseball team has earned Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII honors, it was announced on Friday. The 2012 All-West Coast Conference selection continues to be a strong player on the field and in the classroom.
Kalfus is a Kinesiology major and maintains a 3.42 GPA. The senior out-fielder will graduate this May after enjoying a brilliant career at Saint Mary’s.
The Temecula native is a four-year letterwinner on the baseball team and leads the WCC in batting average, entering the weekend with a .387 average. That mark is more than 30 points higher than the next closest competitor. Kalfus is also enjoying a 26-game hitting streak. He has hits in all but seven of the 41 games he has played in this season.
Saint Mary’s is in the thick of the WCC Tournament race. The Gaels enter the weekend tied for fifth place, as the top four teams earn spots in the WCC Tournament on May 23-25 in Stockton.
The Gaels open a three-game set today against San Diego. First pitch on Friday is set for 3:00 p.m., while Saturday is at 1:00 p.m. and Sunday is at 12:00 p.m.
