MORAGA, Calif. – Samantha Dion, an incoming freshman on the Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team, is representing British Columbia at the Canadian games.
Dion (Fr., 5-foot-4, South Surrey, B.C./Semiahmoo Secondary School) has had numerous honors in her career so far.
“The Canadian Games is a tournament that not many people get the chance to play in… I’m grateful and excited to spend my last week with my teammates and coaches at this amazing tournament,” said Dion.
Dion a member of the Whitecaps Elite Girls Program U-17 and U-18, a team captain. Some honors include U-14 Player of the Game in the NTC West evaluation camp chosen by national team coach, MVP Provincials, the Player of Distinction Award (recognized by National Coaches) and U-15 All-Star team selection for Western Canadian Nationals.
“I'm looking forward to playing for the title of best team in Canada and representing my province,” said Dion. I'm excited I get to play with my best friends once more in a national championship before I go off to college.”
Dion will join the Gaels with SMC already practicing in August, in preparation for the fall 2013 year. The Gaels report on August 6th, with the first competition on August 23rd, a home match against Grand Canyon.
On coming late to camp, Dion stated, “I am a bit concerned about the social side of things but as for the soccer, I know I will be in great shape from the games and my touch will be there when I reach camp. I'll be ready to start my year with Saint Mary's."
